A long, long, time ago, about two counties and one failed marriage
away, I began the story of the "RETRO ROCKETS!" gang. I had no idea what I was doing, how to draw it, or where the story was
going. It was going to be a comic book reflecting my love of old newspaper adventure strips, Flash Gordon serials,
and EC science fiction comics. Tons of story outlines and about twenty pages of both finished and pencil drawings were all
stuck away after I was blindsided by an unexpected divorce. Working two jobs to pay credit card bills that had been run up
in my name, plus feeling just plain lost, I had no inclination or time for my make-believe world of rayguns and rocketships.
Flash forward to better days: Now happily remarried and a dad, the box of art
got dragged out about the same time we FINALLY joined the computer age. Having no computer skills and not even able to scan
images, I stumbled across the Youdraw site.
Basically, it's a site originating in Europe that provides simple B/W sketching tools
combined with text. Nothing fancy, but it was a medium I could handle with an enthusiastic and supportive community of regulars.
I just started out with my basic premise and let it rip. Click on a thumbnail, dive into the story and HAVE FUN!
